I always wonder about tying a thread for protection on Rakshabandhan. Aren't there many other ways to express our immortal love? This festival is actually commercialised today. Why should we limit our love to just one day..??? In a country where molestation, female infanticide is rampant..these festivals don't have any significance.
I don’t wish to sound cynical but this whole business of rituals and religion and the paraphernalia attached to it irks me. I don't wish to hurt anyone's sentiments. It is just my personal view.
I have a good and stronger relationship with my brother and I feel that there is no need for showing it off by tying a thread. Ours is a transparent relationship.

Nice poem.. and about the ritual - well, I do agree that now a days these things have been commercialised today. And yes, there need not be one day for us to celebrate or show this love... But it does has some significance. It is not true that these days are celebrated coz we don't value the relationships otherwise... Every festival/ritual (at least most of them) have their own significance and so does Rakhi festival... But if we celebrate it for the sake of it with no feelings/values - then yes, any ritual for that matter - has no siginificance..
